The 2016 Memorial Tournament was a golf tournament in Ohio on the PGA Tour, held June 2-5 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin. It was the 40th Memorial Tournament.
William McGirt, after 165 career starts without a victory, crept into the lead on the final day; after a save from the bunker and a par putt on the final hole, he entered into a playoff with Jon Curran..[1] The first round, was led by Dustin Johnson, followed by Brendan Steele at one stroke back. Johnson had fallen back by the end of the second round, with Steele vaulting into first alongside Matt Kuchar. By the third round, McGirt had crept into a three-way tie for first with Kuchar and Gary Woodland.
Muirfield Village resident and the world number one-ranked golfer at the time, Jason Day, finished tied for 27th, alongside the defending champion David Lingmerth.[2]

This was the 40th Players Championship held at the Muirfield Village Golf Club and it remained at 7,352 yards (6,723 m).
